WHITE PLAINS – In a career of “firsts,” Anne FitzSimmons says that while others might look at her as the city’s first female police chief, she doesn’t.

“In my mind, I’m just the latest chief in White Plains,” said the 61-year-old lifelong city resident, who was sworn in as chief on Monday. “I’ve never thought of myself as a woman cop — I’m just a cop.”

She’s been “just a cop” for 36 years, joining the department in 1979 over the wishes of her father, William McMahon, 92, who served as White Plains fire chief for many years before his retirement in 1986. – READ MORE
