A distinguished field of speakers will be presenting on a variety of topics, including:

 

 

  • Changing The Face of Leadership from Within: Gender Differences in Leadership Styles by Jane HallMs. Hall is the author of The Red Wall: A Woman in the RCMP, a true story of one who, in 1977, was among the first few female troops accepted into the RCMP. The Red Wall is a snapshot of a time of tremendous social change.
  • Gender and Communication by Carol Boothroyd. Effective teamwork and leadership requires effective communication skills. Men and women do not always speak the same language. Communication is more than meets the ear. Find out that subtle communication signals often impact more than the literal content of words. You will learn that childhood play patterns are still alive and well in the adults in your world. This delightful interactive presentation is guaranteed to be an eye-opener and make you smile.
  • Evolution/Revolution in Policing by Tullio Caputo, Associate Professor Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Carleton University. Dr. Caputo is a respected speaker who analyzes the major developments in policing and how it has affected the policing world.
  • A Personal Story – Hillsborough County Deputy Sheriff Lisa McVey, recounts her personal story of survival at the hands of a serial killer.
  • Developments in Behavioural Sciences – The tactics and roles of female criminal profilers – Sergeant Cindy Ramos (RCMP) and Staff Sergeant Sherri Darrah (RCMP).
  • The Psychology of Engagement and Police Training Methods– Sergeant Colleen Yee, Vancouver Police Department and Inspector (retired) John McKay, Vancouver Police Department, explore the differences in training men and women.
  • From the RCMP to Municipal Policing – Chief Constable Jamie GrahamVictoria Police Department. From the RCMP, Chief Graham became the Chief Constable of the Vancouver Police Department and, after a brief retirement, returned back to policing to become the Chief Constable of the Victoria Police Department. A personal perspective on the evolution of the RCMP and municipal police departments.
  • Policing the Aftermath of a Catastrophe: Hurricane Katrina – Deputy Chief Anthony Christiana, Jr. has over three decades of law enforcement experience, currently serving as the Deputy Chief of Police for a police agency in the New Orleans, Louisiana area.
  • Getting the Message Out – Paul Patterson, Senior Director of Community and Public Affairs, Vancouver Police Department. Mr. Patterson will speak about the evolution from a service style of response to media inquiries, to more strategic communications and tactics.
  • Using the Internet As An Open Source For Information – by Julie Clegg. Ms. Clegg, a former detective with the West Yorkshire Police in the United Kingdom, has developed a number of innovative classroom based programs that enable front-line investigative and research professionals to find better online information in less time, at less cost, with less risk.
