Senate Study Targets Harassment In RCMP

OTTAWA — Updating the RCMP code of conduct, barring transfers of both victims and perpetrators of harassment to avoid dealing with the issue and creating an RCMP ombudsman are among the recommendations contained in the latest report into harassment in the national police force.

The Senate Committee on National Security and Defence released a total of 15 recommendations Tuesday following an eight-month study, some of which draw on practices already adopted by the Canadian Forces and other police organizations.

“This report, we see it as a very pragmatic, positive report in conjunction with everything else that’s going on to help the RCMP move forward into the future,” Sen. Daniel Lang, the committee chairman, said in an interview shortly after the report was tabled. Read more
