Sandy Snyder: First Female Goshen Police Officer Retires

GOSHEN — Thirty-two years ago, Sandy Snyder became the first female police officer on the Goshen Police Department.“I waited two and a half years from when I first applied,” Snyder said. “I knew it was coming and was told to wait. So I went to college and earned my bachelor’s degree in criminal justice at IUSB (Indiana University South Bend.)”

Through the years, she achieved the ranks of sergeant, lieutenant and captain as well as detective and evidence technician before deciding to retire from the force.

“It’s a choice to be a patrolman or raise up in the ranks and I always needed a challenge, I guess,” she said. “I like the supervisory aspect and you have to test for all positions. I was a training officer for several years and then ran the program, as well.” – READ MORE
