A police detective who was shot dead on her final shift before maternity leave was laid to rest on Tuesday in front of a packed church of distraught family and fellow officers.
Kerrie Orozco, 29, was killed in the line of duty last Wednesday in Omaha, Nebraska. She had planned to celebrate her daughter leaving the hospital three months after being born prematurely the following day.
The detective’s funeral took place on the original due date for her daughter, Olivia Ruth. Inside the church, her devastated husband, Hector, was embraced by her colleagues.
Hundreds of people lined the streets of Omaha to pay tribute, many dressed in blue. Several thousand more mourners – many of whom were law enforcement officers from several departments – sat in Omaha’s downtown arena watching a video feed of the funeral. – READ MORE
