Ottawa, November 13, 2013 – RCMP Commissioner Bob Paulson today announced that Assistant Commissioner Janice Armstrong has been appointed to the position of Deputy Commissioner Contract and Aboriginal Policing (CAP). This promotion comes following A/Commr Armstrong’s arrival in Ottawa last spring as Assistant Commissioner, CAP. A/Commr Armstrong becomes the third female member of the RCMP’s Senior Executive Committee at the deputy commissioner level.

“A/Commr Armstrong is a great leader and brings valuable knowledge, skill and experience to the RCMP’s senior leadership,” says RCMP Commissioner Bob Paulson. “Her contributions to the RCMP and Canadians have been invaluable and will continue to make a difference in the lives of Canadians.”

A/Commr Armstrong joined the RCMP in 1986 and spent the majority of her career in E Division prior to arriving at National Headquarters. Following her time at Depot, A/Commr Armstrong worked in Hope, British Columbia in general duty frontline policing. She later went on to positions in Surrey Detachment, working in general investigations, serious crimes and media/communications. From Surrey, she took on the role of Assistant Operations Officer for the Lower Mainland District. She later became Detachment Commander of Ridge Meadows and then Langley and in effect, the Chief of Police for these communities. A/Commr Armstrong then returned to the Lower Mainland District as the Operations Officer and Assistant District Commander. Before coming to Ottawa, A/Commr Armstrong was E Division’s Deputy Criminal Operations Officer.  Read more
