UNION TWP. – The township’s first woman police officer has been awarded $355,000 after a jury determined she was discriminated against by township officials when she was denied lifetime health benefits upon retirement.
MaryAnne Cosimano has paid for her own health benefits since she retired from the Union Township Police Department in 2010. At the time, the township determined she fell just short of the 25 years of service required to receive lifetime health benefits.
A federal jury, however, determined earlier this month that the department discriminated against Cosimano because she was a woman. The $355,000 judgement is intended to cover past and future health expenses. – READ MORE
