Manawatu Gets New Top Cop

Manawatu has a new top cop.

Inspector Sarah Stewart is the first female area commander for Manawatu, taking up the position vacated by Inspector Pat Handcock, who left in October last year to take up a secondment position with the Ministry of Social Development.

Stewart, who started last month, said she began her career as a teacher in Gisborne, teaching intermediate and high school-aged pupils, but two years into the job, she decided to follow in her father’s footsteps, joining the police in 1997, aged 24.  Fresh out of police college, she returned to Gisborne to hit the beat. – READ MORE
