Windsor Police calling all women in effort to diversify: Less than one third of entire Windsor Police Service is female, even fewer women apply to be officers

The Windsor Police Service is struggling to attract women officers.

Less than one third of the department’s entire personnel is female. An even smaller percentage of those who applied to become officers during the 2012 recruitment drive was female.

Approximately 15 of more than 200 applicants were women last year. That’s 7.5 per cent. Read the full story

New Sarasota Police Chief asks more females to apply – Sarasota, Florida – She was sworn in as the first female police chief of Sarasota in more than a century. Bernadette DiPino is 48-years-old and the former police chief of Ocean City, Maryland.  She is a single mother to a daughter who’s a cop in Baltimore.  Law enforcement runs in the family. The Chief’s grandfather and father were also cops. “I grew up listening to their stories. New female recruits join Afghan police force – PAKTYA PROVINCE, Afghanistan – The Afghan Uniformed Police force relies quite a bit on fresh new recruits to ensure the safety of Afghan civilians, but what it needs more than anything is female recruits.

Fortunately, slowly but surely, they are gaining a few female officers with each graduating class. On Jan. 10, 12 proud female AUP cadets graduated from the Gardez Regional Training Center alongside their male counterparts, and will hit the streets with an eager attitude to engage and protect the Afghan public. Read the story

Women police officers critical in combating sexual violence: UN official – United Nations Police Adviser, Anne-Marie Orler says women police officers in United Nations peacekeeping operations play a critical role in combating the scourge of sexual violence, Ms. Orler told UN Radio on Thursday that the goal of the United Nations is to have at least 20 per cent of women police officers in peacekeeping by 2014. Read the story
