Iowa’s First Sworn Female Officer Dies

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Loved ones will gather to remember Iowa’s first sworn female police officer, a Cedar Rapids native, later this week.

Seventy-four-year-old Mary Patricia Armbrecht, or just “Patt” to friends, died September 14th. Family said she had been suffering from a number of medical problems for some time.

Armbrecht started on the Cedar Rapids police force in 1969. In ‘73, she became Iowa’s first female detective, handling juvenile cases. – READ MORE
