Police Looking For More Female Recruits – Peel Regional Police are partnering with five other police services in an attempt to recruit more women to law enforcement.
A special recruiting event has been planned for Saturday, Oct. 20, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 180 Derry Rd. in Mississauga, the Peel Centre for Excellence in Policing. Read more

Female Police Officer Learns The Way Of The Warrior – For this group of women, a discussion of accessories and style has more to do with bullets and badges than handbags and bracelets.

The women — 18 deputies and officers from across the state, and three trainers — spent Thursday and Friday participating in the Female Officer Survival Program, hosted by the S.C. Law Enforcement Officers Association. Among the group were officers from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office and the Bluffton Police Department. Read more

(28 Sept 2012)The Untold Story Of UK’s First Fallen Female Police Officer, Who Died In WWII – On faded yellow paper the entry in the family bible reads: “Bertha Massey. Born 9 October 1910.”

But what is of poignant significance, as the country unites in grief following the brutal murders of two female police officers, is the next entry against young Bertha’s name.  “Killed by enemy action in police station, London on duty June 19 1944.” Read more

Policewoman Recaptures Escaped Teen Girl In Daring Operation – A policewoman intercepted a taxi and used pepper spray to recapture a 15-year-old girl who escaped from custody with the help of her boyfriend and three other men in a daring breakout from Tuen Mun Court yesterday.

The constable also arrested the girl’s boyfriend, 30, and a 19-year-old man in the cab. The two others escaped and were still being hunted by police last night. Read more

RCMP Commanding Officer Vows To Clamp Down On Sexual Harassment (Sept 2012) The new commanding officer for the RCMP in B.C. says he intends to ensure that he will be told “immediately” of serious incidents of sexual harassment within the organization and that concerns raised by victims will be resolved effectively and in a timely manner.

Assistant Commissioner Craig Callens, a third-generation Mountie who has served in British Columbia since joining the force in 1985, takes over as accounts of sexual harassment within the Mounties are surfacing. Read more

Highest-Ranking Woman Retired From The RCMP As It Struggles To Boost Minorities – (Aug 2012) The highest-ranking woman in the RCMP, who had been tapped by the commissioner to help improve the work environment for women in the force, quietly retired in late May, Postmedia News has learned.

The departure of Deputy Commissioner Line Carbonneau comes at a time when there reportedly have been growing murmurs of discontent about Commissioner Bob Paulson’s efforts to boost the visibility of women and minorities in the upper ranks. Read more
