After $87K Verdict FOr Female Cop, Lawyer For Randolph Reportedly Seeks New Trial

The lawyer who represented the Randolph and the township police department against a female officer’s allegations of gender discrimination is trying to obtain a new trial and to set aside the $87,000 verdict awarded to her by a seven-person civil jury last month, the Daily Record reported.

The jury, in a 6-1 vote, agreed Randolph Officer Melissa Bailey had been harassed and retaliated against by other officers because she’s a woman, and awarded her $50,000 for emotional distress caused by the police department’s retaliation and hostile work environment, according to the newspaper.

She was also awarded $37,403 in wages she lost when she took a nine-month leave of absence in 2014 for treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder caused by the work environment, the newspaper reported. – READ MORE
