40th Anniversary Of Women In The RCMP Celebrated In Kelowna

The event featured retired Commissioner Bev Busson, the first female commissioner and member of the first female troop to join the RCMP. The packed room at The Okanagan Golf Club was bustling with women who reminisced about how the force has changed over the years. Busson spoke to the guests about the challenges and experiences she faced when she began her career in Salmon Arm.

 
“When I joined the RCMP in 1974 I was stationed in Salmon Arm, coming from Nova Scotia that was a leap of faith, over the years I worked uniform, plain clothes and then I got a law degree which changed my life,” explains Busson. “I ended up being the first woman commissioned in the force and had great people working with me in my career and had the honour of being the first female commissioner in the RCMP.” – READ MORE
